Spin a Yarn Short Film Night
7 August, 2019

Earlier in the year, one of our dedicated volunteers proposed a project called ‘Spin a Yarn’ to go towards her Community Services Certificate III at TasTAFE.

The idea was to pair each student with an aged care resident, so the students could interview them and learn about their lives. Our Leisure & Lifestyle team thought it was a fantastic idea and knew the value and experience it would provide both residents and students alike. Following several sessions building rapport and creating connections, their interviews were recorded on film.

The residents, students and family members were then invited to attend a short film night to share the life stories. The evening brought laughter – and tears – to all in the room. The opportunity to celebrate and share the experiences, generosity and history of our residents in such an intimate and meaningful way was a privilege. It will be something many will cherish for years to come.

A huge thank you to the residents, students, our Leisure & Lifestyle team and volunteers for making this heartfelt experience happen.
